Facts about the earth

For home work we had to write ten facts about the earth.
Here are mine:

Earth

1. Earth is the 3rd planet from the sun & it is the largest .*terrestrial planets

2. The earth was formed 4.54 billion years ago.

3. Earth is the only planet with living creatures.

4. 70% of the earth surface is covered in water!

5. A day on Earth is not 24 hours it is really 23min, 56min & 4sec. That is how long it takes to spin on the axis.

6. Only 3% of the Earth’s water is pure & 97% salted.

7. Out of the 3% of fresh water 2% is glaciers, that means that less than 1% is good for us, so use it well.

8.Earth is gradually slowing down. Every few years, an extra second is added to make up for lost time.

9. Millions of years ago a day on earth must have been 20 hours long. People think that in a million years, a day on earth might be 27 hours.

10. There is more carbon dioxide in the air today than there has been in the last million years. This means that the air we breath is slowly getting polluted.

* Rocky planets/Rocky midgets are the only planets without gas they are called Venus, Earth, Mars & Mercury.
