Reflection on year 5 and 6 dance unit
We have been doing dance at school.
That you need a sequence of steps, that it is good to use hand jesters and it is easier to keep it simple.
What did you learn about performing a dance?
That you have to learn it by heart and you have to do it in sequence.
What dance or dances did you enjoy most and why? (e.g. Zorba /Greek, Sasa /Samoan, Scottish highlandfling, my own group dances).
I lilked the highland fling because we worked in groups and we were the best ones.
Rate you experience. 1 poor 2 ok 3 good 4 very good 5 excellence.
I rate it 4 good because I was not here on the first lesson
- Walt: Perform dances from a variety of cultures.
- Walt: Use dance vocabulary to describe dance.
- Walt: Create simple dances using a variety of movements from different cultures and present our group dances to others.

New Inventions can help and harm
We have been reading new ideas can help and harm
New ideas can help and harm
Do you use a car every day? Do you think cars are an great invention? You are wrong cars are not an amazing invention they are the things ruining our splendid earth and killing all the nature and wildlife.
Cars release gases and fuel the gasses make the air very dirty. We call this pollution. One of the gasses called carbon dioxide is creating an big blanket around the earth. The gasses are also ruining our ozone layer which makes the sun stronger and also easier to get sun burnt.
Cars also use petrol and inside the petrol is fossil fuels.Fossil fuels are a non renewable resource. Very soon we will have no petrol left because we use way too much. Also in the car engine is a gas called carbon monoxide it is poisonous and can make you very sick.
So, if you thought cars are an great invention think again they are not an great invention they are enemies to the earth!
Speaches
We have been writing speeches to share with the class:
Here is mine:
Here is mine:
That we should walk to school and not drive
Vroom, vroom, beep, beep, oh not again!..
Have you ever been stuck in a traffic jam, and arrived late for school? Well that would not have happened if you had walked to school.
Firstly walking instead of driving makes you healthier because it gets your heart pumping and gives you more energy. You also feel more alert and you can concentrate better at class time. When I wake up in the morning I feel half asleep but after I have done some handstands and exercises, I feel more awake! Walking gives you stronger muscles and makes you fitter which allows you to perform better at sports and in school.
Walking can turn you into a more sustainable person. When you drive you are polluting the earth because the fumes from the car float up into the atmosphere and ruin our ozone layer. The ozone layer is a thin blanket over the earth that makes the sun not as strong and there is less risk of getting sun burnt. The fumes and exhaustion from the car is actually poison and this can leak into the drains where it makes its way into the sea and it pollutes and kills sea life and fish. Next time you go fishing near the waters edge be careful not to catch fish close to the drains because they might be poisoned!
When you are walking you notice things that you might not have seen when you are zooming past in the car. You might notice things like the changing of seasons or maybe just a little daisy sitting alone in the corner of an old weedy street. When I walk to school there is always an old man standing in front of a big house he smiles brightly and I smile back.
Also, when you drive there is more of a risk of you getting hurt by crashing your car and needing to go to the hospital. Cars cost a lot of money to buy and to keep working properly and not even counting the cost of petrol. What if the police catch you speeding or going too slow you would have to pay an humaugus fine and sometimes even go to jail!
If more of us walk, there will be less cars on the road which will make it safer and easier for everyone to travel to school and work. Less cars also means that we are using up less oil and the earths natural resources. Once the earth has no oil left we will have no petrol left to run cars so we will have to walk!
Now I know that you understand why you should walk to school and will try to do it as much as you can!

Corban's Art Center
We are learning about Andrew hall
Here is a link to a website about corban art estate.
On Thursday 4 of September Room 2 and Room 3 went to Corban's Art Center in Henderson. We made things out of recycled material like Old toys, Phones, Wood and lots lots more. We got inspired by Andrew Hall a great artist that makes things out recycled materials. I made a picture frame by gluing 2 puzzles back to back as the base and pieces of wood around the out side. Then I added little wooden characters and things sticking out to hang necklaces. I enjoyed having my mum as a parent help because she gave me ideas and making the creation out of recyclable materials!
It was challenging to think of an idea of what to make because I didn't want to make a robot.
If I was to do this again I would make my frame bigger because I have quite a big photo to put in it.
