Capacity

Today I have been learning about capacity here is a link for a padlet me an my table group did about capacity

I was wondering how much liter of water would go into the big mixing bowl.

I found out that 1000 ml is one liter.

It was tricky filling in the little container because the water was going all over the table.

I  enjoyed  working as a team to find out how much liters of water in each separate containers.

I did not enjoy having to clean up the water that went all over the tables.

We pored all the water in the grass so we did not wast it.   

We are learning about using adjectives here is a poem about colour: 

       Yellow’

Yellow is the colour of golden sun.

Yellow tastes like fizzing lemonade.

Yellow smells like blooming buttercups on a summers day.

Yellow sounds like little birds singing a beautiful melody.

Yellow looks like a shimmering sunset over the calm sea.

Yellow feels like blazing hot fire against my cheeks.

                               This Week                               18/6/14

This week we have been learning about writing

reports we wrote a report about the storm that hit Torbay and a report informing new family's and students. It was very fun and exciting. On Wednesday 18th June I did an ICAN writing test we had to write a narrative I was very nervous.

Today we have been learning about hunderwasser and the elements of art we had to do copy some of his art by doing sketches and then we have to start a real picture with a buddy which is how to help the environment.

This week I m
moved up a spelling group, from erasers to pencils because I got 16/16 four times in row in my buddy test!

Today we went over the hundertwasser art work with vivid and started on our torbay school video to promote torbay school.

Today room 1, 2 & 4 went to lactic turkey. It is a sustainability challenge that you do in groups. You have to find thing taped to the trees and do

This week we have been reading the plight of the sea turtle. It tells up how we can help the sea turtle and the life and journey of the sea turtle. Then we had to make a presentation about the book I created a powtoon which is like short video of PowerPoint click here to see it.

 

Mosquito

What is a mosquito?

A mosquito is a type of insect that suckes blood to make eggs they make you have a red itchy bite which is full of blood.

Mosquito is worlds most dangerous animal it can spread a disease called malaria to other animals & insects. A small mosquito is called larva / wriggler.

It lays its eggs on a flat pond & it comes out as a bunch of eggs. 3 days later they hatch they are called lava or wrigglers. They float to the surface to get air & bits of food. When the small mosquito (larva) has predators around in hids in dry crunchy leaves & twigs.

Then then all lavras skin shreds to form new. Next a little pupa comes out        of the wriggler, after a few days its tail becomes stiff, its eyes open & it comes out of the  water it sits on the water for a minute then flies away.

That is how a mosquito becomes a mosquito.

Flashback crash!

Ah, The plane was shaking. Was my life really going to end? Bunches of black smoke were streaming out the back engine Suddenly the wing of the plane fell off plummeting straight into the murky water below.The worried voice of the captain pored through the speakers oh no not today not now.

Slowly but steadily the plane fell, “I want my money back” I shouted into the airy driving cabin but my voice just echoed around the motionless plane. Why did I ever agree to come on this horrendous trip? Everyone was talking at once it was ringing in my ears then after what felt like forever the plane started falling faster and with a BOOM it collided with the ground. Everything was dark. It was in complete silence. Ouch! A humongous grey blob hit me in the head I felt dizzy, my head was pinned onto the ground.”Help” I shouted but nobody heard me I struggled to get free but all I did was make it worse. Sweat was streaming down my face & the sun was roasting me like a turkey on thanksgiving. I lifted my weary arms & with the last of my strength I tugged off the big part of the wing and lay back exhausted and fell asleep. How was this going to end? Was I going to die or live?

Torbay school  

Torbay is a school located on the Deep Creek road north shore near the beach. At orbay school we learn new things and work together. It is run by the principal, Wendy Sandifer.

Play ground/Environment

At Torbay School we have many playgrounds to hang out in. We have a car track , rugby posts, netball hoops & a spinning tornado!  Torbay school has a sand pit and an outside. This school also has a pe shed run by some of our students where you can get all your sports equipment.

Opportunities

Torbay school has lots of opportunities for kids to join in. We have cultural activities like Pasifika, Kapa Haka & choir if you like singing. We also have production & Torbay idol where you can show off all your singing dancing and acting skills. You can join clubs some which are fun and some for your learning like: Book club, Extension groups, Art club, Loom club, Flip crew & T.T.T club.

Conclusion:  

Torbay School is an awesome place place to learn and work together as a team!

My Goals

In reading I am learning to understand vocabulary (the words and their meanings) and think beyond my text and link my ideas to the story.

In maths I am learning about mixed fractions and challenging multiplication problems.

In writing I am learning to add more description and complex sentences.

This week my learning has been awesome!
I found out that by using rechargeable batteries you can reduce lots of electricity.
I wondered how the solar panels worked.
The most difficult part was trying to turn on the kettle because it uses lots of energy. 
Now I know how much things people use just to make one laptop.
My next step is to use rechargeable batteries because they don't use lots of electricity.
