Speaches

We have been writing speeches to share with the class:
Here is mine:
That we should walk to school and not drive

Vroom, vroom, beep, beep, oh not again!..
Have you ever been stuck in a traffic jam, and arrived late for school? Well that would not have happened if you had walked to school.

Firstly walking instead of driving makes you healthier because it gets your heart pumping and gives you more energy. You also feel more alert and you can concentrate better at class time. When I wake up in the morning I feel half asleep but after I have  done some handstands and exercises, I feel more awake! Walking gives you stronger muscles and makes you fitter which allows you to perform better at sports and in school.

Walking can turn you into a more sustainable person. When you drive you are polluting the earth because the fumes from the car float up into the atmosphere and ruin our ozone layer. The ozone layer is a thin blanket over the earth that makes the sun not as strong and there is less risk of getting sun burnt. The fumes and exhaustion from the car is actually poison and this can leak into the drains where it makes its way into the sea and it pollutes and kills sea life and fish. Next time you go fishing near the waters edge be careful not to catch fish close to the drains because they might be poisoned!

When you are walking you notice things that you might not have seen when you are zooming past in the car. You might notice things like the changing of seasons or maybe just a little daisy sitting alone in the corner of an old weedy street. When I walk to school there is always an old man standing in front of a big house he smiles brightly and I smile back.

Also, when you drive there is more of a risk of you getting hurt by crashing your car and needing to go to the hospital. Cars cost a lot of money to buy and to keep working properly and not even counting the cost of petrol. What if  the police catch you speeding or going too slow you would have to pay an humaugus fine and sometimes even go to jail!

If more of us walk, there will be less cars on the road which will make it safer and easier for everyone to travel to school and work. Less cars also means that we are using up less oil and the earths natural resources. Once the earth has no oil left we will have no petrol left to run cars so we will have to walk!

Now I know that you understand why you should walk to school and will try to do it as much as you can!
